The Brown Cow, Keighley

It is often said that in a small pub it is difficult to keep on building the business but in Keighley we have a pub which has done just that. Since 2003 when Barry and Carol Taylor took over the pub it has gone from strength to strength, the proof is the number of awards they have received: Pub of the season Winter 2005/6, Voted best pint of Mild on our 2004 Mild Trail and in their first year, an award to recognise the improvement of quality and choice of Real Ale in the Keighley and Craven Branch area. And now they have in the face of some stiff competition won our Pub of the Season award for Spring 2007.

The small end of terrace pub, owned by our famous local Family Brewer, Timothy Taylor's has gone through many changes in the last four years: No bad language policy, Keighley's first 'No Smoking' pub, and now the Pool Table has gone giving way to the demand for more space for us all to have a drink and enjoy being with friends or simply to have a quiet drink and read the complementary newspapers, books and history of the pub and local area. All these innovations have been introduced by Barry and Carol and they have worked hard to ensuring a busy pub. I have to mention the cleanest pub toilets you could wish for. The big brewers and pub chains would say there is 'no demand' for this type of pub and they certainly would not build them like this any more, but the Keighley drinkers (contrary lot that they are!) have proved them wrong, there certainly is demand.

What about the beer? I hear you say, Taylor's Bitter, Golden Best, Landlord and Ram Tam with two guest beers always in great form and in line with the resurgence of Cider a real cider on hand pump with no ice in sight. To ensure their own standards Barry and Carol recently entered for a Beautiful Beer Award. This scheme is run by the British Beer & Pub Association and they scored 198/200. Everything is checked from the cellar to the bar in a two hour examination. At the time of writing The Brown Cow is the only pub in West Yorkshire to win a prestigious Gold award. Well done!

Why not come along on Wednesday 21st March at 8.30 to celebrate with us when we present the award and if you can't make that, well just visit the pub and enjoy. I'll drink to that!

The Opening Hours are Monday to Friday 4-11, Saturday 12-11 and Sunday 12 – 10.30. Quiz Night the last Wednesday in the month. Entry is free and a free snack is available. Every Sunday is Super Saver Sunday, when one of the 6 cask beers will be on offer at £1.50 a pint.
